Thanchi Upazila is located at the southern part of Bandarban district. This place is a remote area and surrounded by the mountains. Lots of Indigenous people such as Marma, Chakma, Bawm, Khumi, Pnar and Kuki are living in this region. Sangu river is flowing just beside the Thanchi bazaar. Tanchi bazaar is connected to Bandarban road by a long bridge over the Sangu river. Most of travelers stay here during their travel to Remakri, Nafakhum, Amiakhum and Velakhum.
Main attraction in this place are to travel by the river and enjoying the surrounding mountains. You can feel the ethnic culture and their living very closely at this place. There are few restaurants available in the Thanchi bazaar where you can taste the local food and fresh fishes captured from the river.

Key Attractions
- While travelling Thanchi from Bandarban, you will see thousands of mountains and jhumghor above them. You can capture some beautiful photos and enjoy some resting time at any place during the journey.
- Enjoy the taste of local fruits such as banana, green mango juice, pinaples etc. Local fruits are mostly free of any kind of harmful chemicals; they generally do not use pesticide in their plants.
- When you reach at Thanchi bazaar, don’t forget to taste the local foods including the fresh fishes captured from the Sangu River.
- Meet with indigenous people and know their ethnic believe, language, culture and cuisine. You are advised to bring a local tour guide with you in this journey.
How to go Thanchi Upazila?
Thanchi is around 70km south from the Bandarban Town. You must hire local jeep (chander gari) in order to reach Thanchi. You can also bring you own jeep with expert driver. Please remember that the road is mountainous and terrain is very tough to drive. Very high and low sloping road by the hill side with huge turns at a regular interval is difficult to handle by an expert driver.
